The Comitato per la
Promozione del Merletto di Cantù (Committee for the
Promotion of Lace-making of Cantù) publishes for 2007,
the sixth bobbin lace pattern competition with the
following theme:
Project for
a bobbin lace border
The principal scope of the
competition is to promote bobbin lace design in all its
different forms.
The competition is divided into two sections: the first
for innovation and the second for tradition.
Both national and international participants are welcome
including artists, designers, craftsmen operating in the
sector, schools, associations and private individuals
(also as groups). Each groups should appoint a
representative who will maintain contacts with the
Committee. Each participant should indicate the section
in which his work is to be registered.
Requirements: the project should consist of a plate
(maximum size: 50 x 70 cm) on stiff cardboard and the
following attachments:
*
explanations of the stitches to be used using currently
used terms;
* a
precise identification of the type of yarn and possible
colours;
* a
short description of the project.
* if
possible but not necessary a 10 cm sample of the border.
Together with the project, small samples are also
accepted in order to show materials and stitches.
The design should not show any signature of the
participant or any identifying marks except for the title
of the work.
A sealed envelope, to be attached to the project showing
the same title of the work, should contain the name,
photo and address of the participant.
Addresses and deadlines for presentation of projects: the
participants should send, at their own expenses, their
projects to the secretary of the Comitato per la
Promozione del Merletto c/o Pro Cantù, Via Matteotti
39, 22063 Cantù, within the 20th
of July 2007. The parcels containing the projects should
be marked “ project for national and
international competition, no commercial value”.
They should also show the section in which they are to
compete as follows: “innovation section”
or “tradition section”.
The projects will become part of the archives of
the Comitato per la Promozione del Merletto. The winning
projects will remain the property of the Committee which
holds the right to their future production and display in
places held to be suitable by the Committee.
The Comitato per la Promozione del Merletto, Cantù
will display the winning projects and all those
accepted f rom the 14st of to the 28th
Octobre 2007. The prizes will be assigned on the
opening day. The results of the competition will be
published in the local press and, via a press release, in
the most important sectoral magazines.
Prizes: The jury will have absolute power and will award
a gold medal to the winner of each section. Four silver
medals will be also awarded. The jury could also allot
two commendations to schools working hard on the
projects.
