Avec ce mail, je vous invite très cordialement à notre
prochain congrès qui se tiendra à Krefeld (Allemagne),
le 7 au 10 octobre 2019. Dans notre site web http://cieta.fr/ vous trouverez toutes les
informations nécessaires : le programme du congrès, le
programme des excursions du jeudi, 10 octobre, et une
information pour votre voyage avec une sélection
d'hôtels disponibles à Krefeld. J'espère que vous
trouverez ces documents utiles pour la préparation de
votre voyage. Une information sur les bourses disponibles
pour ceux qui en ont besoin vous sera donnée dans le
site web ces prochains jours.
J'ajoute que pour ceux qui s'intéressent à découvrir
d'autres trésors textiles en Allemagne, une excursion

Je suis d'autant plus contente de pouvoir vous proposer
ce nouveau mode d'inscription, que l'administration du
CIETA a subi certaines modifications depuis le début de
cette année: Grâce au soutien de la Chambre de Commerce
et d'Industrie de Lyon, la fonction d'une Sécrétaire
Administrative Générale de notre association a été
assurée, pendant beaucoup d'années, par un membre de
l'équipe du musée des Tissus, mis à la disposition du
CIETA. Depuis l'établissement d'une nouvelle structure
pour les musées des Tissus et des Arts Décoratifs,
cette mise à disposition a été terminée, et Agnès
Colas n'est plus en poste. Le siège du CIETA au musée
des Tissus de Lyon n'a, cependant, jamais été mis en
question, et je suis contente de pouvoir vous assurer que
les activités du CIETA - les sessions techniques, le
congrès, le développement des vocabulaires - continuent
sans interruption. Pour toutes questions, n'hésitez pas

Dear Members of the CIETA, dear colleagues,
with this mail, I cordially invite you to our next
congress, held in Krefeld (Germany), 7 - 10 October 2019.
In our website http://cieta.fr/ you will find all the necessary
information: the congress programme, the programme of
excursions planned for Thursday, 10 October, and some
information for your journey with a list of hotels
available in Krefeld. I hope you will find these
documents useful for the planning of your journey.
Information on the CIETA travelling grants will be added
to the website in a few days.
I would like to add that for those of you who are
interested in discovering more textile treasures in
Germany, an additional excursion to Dresden is being
planned for the week-end 11 - 13 October. If you would
like to participate in this tour, please contact me per
mail to president@cieta.fr
For the first time, you can register for the congress
online, in the CIETA website; for the payment of your
congress fees, you have the choice between a bank
transfer, a payment by Paypal or by credit card. I hope
you will find the process easy and convenient.
I am especially pleased to announce these new
developments, as the CIETA administration had to be
adapted to a new situation since the beginning of this
year: Thanks to the generous support of the Chambre de
Commerce et d'Industrie de Lyon, the position of a
General Administrative Secretary for our association was
held, for many years, by a staff member of the musée des
Tissus. Since a new structure was established for the
musées des Tissus et des Arts Décoratifs, this
allocation of resources has ended and Agnès Colas has
left the museum. Of course, the seat of the CIETA will
remain in the musée des Tissus in Lyon, and I am pleased
to announce that all the activities of our association -
the Technical Courses, the congresses and the development
of the vocabularies - will continue without interruption.
For any questions you might have, please do not hesitate

Liebe Freunde des Textilen Zentrums
Haslach!
Es freut uns, Ihnen von einer Neuigkeit bei uns
im Haus berichten zu können: Nach jahrelangen
Vorbereitungen wurde im Jänner 2020 der Sitz des
Europäischen Textilnetzwerks ETN ins Textile
Zentrum Haslach übersiedelt!
ETN ist eine internationale Vereinigung
von Textilschaffenden, -
künstler/innen, -lehrenden und
–forschenden. Es wurde nach dem Fall des
Eisernen Vorhangs mit dem Ziel gegründet, den
kulturellen Austausch und die Solidarität
zwischen den Nationen zu fördern und das textile
Erbe in Europa zu wahren und weiterzuentwickeln.
Zwischen ETN und Haslach gibt es
seit vielen Jahren eine enge Verbindung. Bereits
2009 fand die erste ETN Konferenz bei uns in
Haslach statt. Diese Großveranstaltung war für
uns ein wichtiger Meilenstein in der Aufbauphase
des Textilen Zentrums Haslach und gab unserem
Projekt viel Rückenwind.
10 Jahre später, im Juli 2019
konnten wir zum zweiten Mal die ETN Konferenz bei
uns ausrichten und hatten die Möglichkeit, unser
Haus und die ganze Umgebung als Textilregion zu
präsentieren.
Als erste Aktivität wurde die Homepage
von ETN neu gestaltet: www.etn-net.org . Die Seite befindet sich
noch im Aufbau,

The Textile Collections:
The
collection of textiles preserved at the
Ursulines’ monastery in Quebec City
is considered to be one of the oldest and richest
in North America. It includes textiles and civil
costumes, lace works and more importantly a
unique collection of liturgical vestments, with
45 altar frontals. The most precious pieces of
this ensemble, crafted between 1650 and 1820, are
embroidered with gold and silver threads and
display medallions made of silk thread whose
subjects are drawn from the Holy Scriptures or

- Das Project
Silk Memory der Hochschule Luzern mit
demTextilmuseum St. Gallen
Die Hochschule Luzern – Design & Kunst
initiierte 2012 mit finanzieller Unterstützung
der Zürcherischen Seidenindustrie-Gesellschaft
(ZSIG) das Projekt Silk Memory.
Ziel ist der Aufbau eines digitalen
Textilarchivs. In diese Datenbank
aufgenommen werden nun auch ausgewählte Seidenstoffe
aus der Sammlung des Textilmuseums St. Gallen.
In seiner nächsten Phase wird
das Projekt Silk Memory weitere Textilien aus
nationalen und internationalen Seidenarchiven und
Museumssammlungen sowie aus Hochschulen und
anderen interessierten Institutionen in der
Datenbank erfassen. Ziel ist es, mindestens
5’000 Stoffmuster zu erfassen und diese dann
laufend zu erweitern. Die Datenbank ist kostenlos

the Palais Galliera in January 2018, for a term
of five years.
De nationalité espagnole Miren Arzalluz est
diplômée du Courtauld Institute of Art de
Londres dans la spécialité Histoire de la Mode.
Elle a collaboré avec de grandes institutions
muséales sur les questions de costumes et de
mode. Elle a développé une expérience de
commissaire ou chercheur associée au cours de
plusieurs expositions marquantes dans le domaine
de la Mode durant ces dix dernières années,

Créateurs d’ailleurs, Les années
50, La Mode en France 1947-1957.
Of Spanish nationality, Miren Arzalluz is a
graduate of the Courtauld Institute of Art in

costume and fashion. As a curator or associate
researcher she has contributed to several
landmark exhibitions in the field of fashion
during the last ten years, including Fashion Mix,

Führungen und Vorträge
Das Schaulager der SWISS TEXTILE COLLECTION, in
den Räumlichkeiten der Alten Spinnerei in Murg,
öffnet regelmäßig die Sammlung für die
Öffentlichkeit. Mitglieder des Vereins führen
durch die Sammlung und die Bibliothek. Sie
stellen einzelne Objekte der Sammlung vor und
ermöglichen den Besuchern, gemäß dem Motto des
Vereins «Prêt-à-toucher», die
Stücke auch anzufassen. Begleitet werden diese
Tage durch Vorträge und Special Events.
- Kooperation
mit ETN
Christina Leitner und Andreas Selzer vom
Textile Zentrum Haslach (Österreich) luden
unseren Vorstand zu einem Treffen vom 30. –
31.7. ein, um über die Zukunft von ETN (European
Textile Network) zu beraten, nachdem die
langjährige Vorsitzende Beatrijs Sterk aus
Altersgründen zurückgetreten war. Unsere
Vorstandsmitglieder Elisabeth Hackspiel-Mikosch
und Uta-Chrstiane Bergemann folgten der
Einladung. Gemeinsam mit ETN-Mitgliedern aus
zahlreichen
europäischen Ländern kam man überein, dass
sich ETN deutlich vom netzwerk mode textil e.V.
unterscheiden sollte. Zielgruppe von ETN werden
europaweit vorwiegend Künstler und
Kunsthandwerker sein, die mit textilen
Materialien arbeiten, ferner Galerien und Museen,
die deren Werke ausstellen. Alle waren sich
einig, dass ETN den künstlerischen Nachwuchs
fördern und den Gedanken der europäischen
Gemeinschaft beispielhaft vorantreiben sollte.
Das Textile Zentrum Haslach wird mit seinen
technischen Möglichkeiten das Zentrum von ETN
sein und entsprechende Workshops anbieten. Das
netzwerk mode textil e.V. setzt sich gerne als
Kooperationspartner für ETN ein. Wir wünschen
dem dynamischen Team von Christina und Andreas
allen erdenklichen Erfolg in der der Zukunft.
Eine ausführliche Führung durch das frisch
renovierte Textile Zentrum begleitete die Tagung.
Wir können sagen: Ein Besuch lohnt sich auf
jeden Fall!
- Prof. Dr.
Ingrid Loscheks sehr umfangreiche und
wohlsortierte Bibliothek hat nun, 6 Jahre nach
ihrem Ableben, eine neue Heimat gefunden, die
bestimmt sehr in ihrem Sinn ist.
Die Erstpräsentation ihres Nachlasses
fand am 1. Oktober 2016 in Wien im
Rahmen der langen Nacht der Museen in den Räumlichkeiten
der Landesinnung Wien der Mode und
Bekleidungstechnik in der Fütterergasse 1 statt.
Wilhelm Loschek, der die Schenkung an die Innung
in die Wege leitete und betreute, wünscht sich
für die Zukunft, dass dieses Angebot möglichst
breit und intensiv für die Recherche genutzt
wird.

Michaela Reichel resigned in September 2017 and
Barbara Karl – curator of the textile
collection at the MAK until February 2017 –
was appointed new director. The new textile
curator at the MAK since November 2017 is Silke
Geppert.

We received the following enquiry via our website
and thought we would share it in case anyone has
some useful experiences to share with
Catherine.
Hello.
I work as the Collections Registrar for the
National Trust in Northern Ireland. Myself, the
Curators and the House and Collections team at
one of our properties, Springhill, are beginning
work on a Collections Review of a costume
collection located at Springhill. The
costume collection has been located at Springhill
since its inception by volunteers in the 1960s
but it does not related to the property much at
all, but rather is a standalone collection with
some amazing pieces in their own right- history
of costume, fashion history, wow pieces etc. We
want to make an assessment of all the objects and
become clearer about the significance of the
collection as a whole and its individual parts,
as well as leaving a clear trail around any
disposals we might make of items that don’t
meet the criteria.
In order to do this we need to have a clear
matrix for assessing the significance of the
costume itself. We began by using a rather
simplistic assessment criteria which the NT
compiled but it isn’t working out for us. It
focuses very much on the significance to the
property , ie whether an item is indigenous or
not. There seems to be no value given the
quality of the object, its history and design
etc.
We want to demonstrate the quality and
significance of this collection, and this
criteria template doesn’t really do it
justice.
We wondered if you might have had to assess
significance for costume/ unusual collections in
your work/ or know of anyone else who has and if
you/ they would kindly share your experience/
assessment criteria/ matrix with us if so?
We also had long conversations about the level of
knowledge of costume that is required in order to
do such a review, and how much we would have to
depend on external costume expertise- but I think
that we can still make good progress even if we
flag up areas that need more investigation by
experts.
We would be so grateful if this is something you
could advise us on or even if someone has done
something similar, we would be grateful for a
chat.

ICOM writes in August 2018: Naomi Tarrant, who
missed the meeting in The Netherlands due to a
painful medical condition, has been diagnosed
with multiple myeloma. She is being treated and
she has a positive prognosis for controlling the

London had passed away after suffering
from cancer. Deirdre was an expert in royal dress

cultural talent. She worked with colleagues
around the world and was well known to many in
the U.S. through lecture tours organized by
Historic Royal Palaces and her attendance at
international conferences. Her obituary appeared
in The Guardian on July 12.
- A very sad
news: Santina Levey passed away very recently. She
was a very great textile, dress and lace
specialist, and such a dear friend to many. She
will still be present through her work and
publications.

Santina Levey, FSA, BA Hons, D.Litt., began her
museum career in Northampton, where she learnt to
make lace. Later she moved to Norwich were she
was responsible for three buildings on medieval
foundations, a church and two museums, before
winning an open competition for a research post
in the Department of Textiles at the V & A
Museum. Her specialist areas of study were
embroidery, lace and other non-woven techniques.
She wrote Lace: A History, which was published
for the museum by Maney & Son in 1983. She
worked in the Department for twenty years, as its
Keeper from 1981-89. She was the final Curatorial
Keeper. She had already started to catalogue the
Blackborne Lace Collection and was instrumental
in seeing it installed at The Bowes Museum. Her
long and increasingly important study of the
textiles at Hardwick Hall in the hands of the
National Trust, culminated in The Embroideries at
Hardwick Hall: a catalogue, published by The
National Trust in 2007.

committee announces that during the International
UNESCO Conference held in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia
(26 Nov. - 2 Dec. 2016), three Austrian craft
centers were honoured, among them the Textiles
Zentrum Haslach. Since 1 December 2016, it is
part of the "International UNESCO
Register of Good Safeguarding Practices for the
Preservation of Immaterial Cultural
Heritage".

Zum Immateriellen Kulturerbe zählen lebendige
Traditionen aus den Bereichen Tanz, Theater,
Musik, mündliche Überlieferungen, Naturwissen und
Handwerkstechniken. Sie vermitteln Identität
und Kontinuität, werden von Generation zu
Generation weitergegeben und immer wieder neu

eine von drei UNESCO-Listen des Immateriellen
