- of the CIETA Embroidery Group Bulletin dInformation de Groupe Broderie de CIETA Nr 27 |
Dear members, This Newsletter Nr 27 is also sent as an attachment to e-mail for members and you will find it on the homepage as well, with links to the special entries. Thanks again for sending to me several contributions. I am appreciating all your further information very much. Special thanks go to Ute Christiane Bergemann and to the Textile Museum in Krefeld. They made it possible for the embroidery group to have an interesting meeting in the beginning of August. Subsequently a proposition for the Vocabulary Project was worked out. Your feedback will be appreciated very much. Many thanks go to Renate Krisper, who started the translations in English and French I am looking now for members who are so kind and willing to work out terminologies in their own languages: German, English and French (just as a beginning). I would be glad to publish (homepage or e-mail) these contributions and point of views for further discussions. Best wishes, yours Anne Wanner Anne Wanner-JeanRichard |

Line stitches (straight
stitches) Embroidery stitches that form continuous lines General characteristics: -You pass the needle through the fabric at regular intervals (counting threads or freestyle) with an in-and-out movement. - The wrong sides are similar or identical (as in Double running stitch = Holbein stitch). - The stitches run in a straight line, from right to left. They lie evenly on both sides of the densely woven fabric. - On a fine, loosely woven fabric the stitches may be pulled tightly, thus creating an Openwork effect. - The stitches may be worked with one single type of thread or combining different thread materials. - Partly, those stitches can be used as Filling stitches. |
