No. 34 Donsanhuan Middle Road, CN-100020 Beijing - International contact: Wang Mei, e-mail: may_zhe@hotmail.com organized by: Prof. Lin Lecheng, e-mail: 010@yahoo.cn or fiberart@yahoo.cn - deadline: 27 July 2012 http://www.chinafiberart.com.cn/4th-english.html
  • 14 December 2012, 19 am to 7.39 pm "Textiles: Open Letter. A Haptic Space: Practice and Discourse" , Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien , Institut für Kunst- und Kulturwissenschaften, Schillerplatz 3, 1010 Wien
The conference will focus on the interrelation between (social) history and the history of style. Looking at the related idea of “haptic space”, formulated by the Viennese art historian Alois Riegl, who also worked as curator of textiles at the Museum of Applied Arts, the critical involvement of (post-)formalist art practice and discourse in the debate about the dominance of the optical will thus be contrasted with specific phenomena within formalist modern art and 8 art history. The presentations will discuss the traditional and current status of textiles as intermedia regarding the materiality of transsubjective forms of aesthetic production, cultural knowledge and social relations.

    More about the notion UNITEXT
    Please send the application to
info@kaunas.biennial.lt (max 25 MB per e-mail); subject: UNITEXT proposal till 15th September, 2012
The 9th Kaunas Biennial UNITEXT will create conditions for immediate collisions of an artwork and a spectator, allowing the experience of art as a universal text. Curators of the exhibition together with artists will pursue a concept that is new and unfamiliar in a cultural context and will consolidate it by presenting practical examples. We will go into the question of a unitext, which is the latest link in work -> text -> intertext -> hypertext -> unitext semiotic chain of artistic field.
According to the consistency of this chain the UNITEXT exhibition claims a privilege to present novel ideas about the art at the level of structural and notional revelation. The suggestion is to perceive unitext in this chain as a universal artistic language, which unifies different experiences and concepts. The exhibition will provide a unique voice for each artwork instead of handling this task to explanatory texts. We believe artworks themselves are suggestive, influential and complete enough. We invite artists to present works experiences of which are based on a direct confrontation with an object / space / semantic field. We invite to present unitexts, which are seen through intuition, materiality, spontaneity, sensuality, feeling, here and now experiences.
