ANNE WANNER'S Textiles in History : informations

The recent Textile Society of America symposium in Washington DC was marked by the newly configured Board of Directors’ inaugural meeting. The 2012-2014 Board of Directors is composed of:

President (2011-2014) Elena Phipps has been a member of the TSA Board since 2008 was elected to the position of Vice-President in 2010 and became the president in 2011. She has a PhD in Art History and over thirty years of experience as a textile conservator at the Metropolitan Museum.  Recently retired from the MMA, Phipps has been teaching at UCLA and the Getty.  She is also a member of the curatorial team working on an upcoming MMA exhibition, ‘The Interwoven Globe’ (Fall 2013).
Vice-President/President Elect (2012-2014), Roxane Shaughnessy has been the TSA Recording Secretary since 2008 and has attended every TSA Symposium since 1998. She was a member of the organizing committee for TSA 8, 2006, in Toronto, and is Curator, Collections and Access, at the Textile Museum of Canada.
Treasurer (2012-2016) Michael Londrigan joins the TSA Board withover 30 years of textile industry experience dealing with sourcing, production, sales, and marketing, domestically and overseas.  He has an MBA in Marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University and is currently Chair, Fashion Merchandising at LIM College.
Recording Secretary (2012-2016) Newly elected to the Board, Susan Brown is Associate Curator of Textiles at the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. She has an MA in Costume and Textiles from the Fashion Institute of Technology and spent 12 years as costume designer for theater and opera.

External Relations Director (2010-2014)

Michele A. Hardy joined the Board in 2010 as External Relations Director. She is a Curator with the Nickle Galleries andCoordinator for the Program in Museum and Heritage Studies, University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta Canada.  Hardy holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology as well as degrees in textiles and studio arts. Her research interests include Islamic folk textiles in India and Western Asia on which she has published articles, book chapters, and exhibition catalogues.  She has presented at four TSA symposia and contributed to the newsletter.
Internal Relations Director (2012–2014)
Ann Svenson joined the Board in 2008 as a Director-at-large and the 2008 & 2010 Proceedings editor.  From 2012-2014 she moves to the Internal Relations Director. A textile conservator in private practice, she has worked on collections at UCLA Fowler Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Shangri La –The Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art in Honolulu, HI among others. She will be participating on the Symposium 2014 LA coordinating team.

Directors at Large
Geraldine Craig (2010-2014)
Craig is Associate Professor and Department Head at Kansas State University Department of Art. She holds an MFA in Fiber from Cranbrook Academy of Art and her textile work has been exhibited internationally. Recent research interests include writing about contemporary craft and patterns of language in Hmong textiles. She has an extensive publication record, including a monograph on the work of Joan Livingstone (Telos: London) and more than ninety articles and reviews in periodicals such as Art in America, The Journal of Modern Craft, and Fiberarts, among others.
Sarah Fee (2010-2014)
Fee is Associate Curator of Eastern Hemisphere Textiles and Costume at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto. She holds graduate degrees in anthropology and African studies from Oxford University and the School of Oriental Studies, Paris. Her publications include “Gifts and Blessings, the Textile Arts of Madagascar” catalogue to her 2002 exhibition, as well as book chapters and articles on the technology and social significance of weaving and textiles in Madagascar.  Past TSA participation includes paper presentations at TSA biennial Symposia and contributions to the newsletter and list serv.
Eulanda Sanders (2012-2016)
Newly elected Board Member Eulanda Sanders is associate professor of Design and Merchandising at Colorado State University and Director of the Center for Women’s Studies and Gender. She has been named the Donna R. Danielson Professor in Apparel Merchandising and Design at Iowa State University. She is also the design director at Yo-San Studio where she markets and designs wearable art accessories for an online store. Sanders received her PhD from University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Jill D’Alessandro (2012 2016)
Joining the Board in 2012, Jill D’Alessandro is curator of Costume and Textile Arts, The Caroline & H. McCoy Jones Department of Textiles Arts at the De Young Museum in San Francisco. She received her MFA in Fibers from Tyler School of Art and was a presenter at the 2008 Symposium. She also served on TSA’s R.L. Shep Book Award Committee (2009-11).
Dominique Cardon (2012-2016)
After delivering a keynote speech at the 2010 TSA Symposium, Dominique Cardon joins the Board for the first time.  She is Directrice de Recherche de 1ère classe CNRS [1st class Senior Researcher, CNRS (National Centre of Scientific Research)] as well as a textile designer and weaver. She received her PhD from the University of Montpellier in History and Archaeology.
Susan Bean, (2012-2016)
A founding Board member of TSA (1987-92), Susan Bean re-joins the Board as a Director at Large.  She recently retired from the position of Curator of South Asian and Korean Art at the Peabody Essex Museum.  She has a PhD from Columbia University and a BA from Brown University.

We are very grateful to the Board members who will be completing their terms: Joanne Eicher, Maryanne Jordan, Matilda McQuaid, Mary Littrell, Chris Martens and Barbara Shapiro. They have made tremendous contributions to the organization and we thank them for their service. We also would like to thank Susan Powers, who has served as our website Task Representative and wish her the best with her new family.
