                                           additional devices in machine embroidery

I was happy to meet Mr. Joseph Schoch who assembled many documents on how to set up the design for machine embroidery on the so called “handmachine”, first invented by Josua Heilmann in 1928 in Mulhouse and improved in the 1850s in St.Gallen, Switzerland.
His father, also Joseph Schoch (1887-1965) worked as a so called “enlager”. The son researched the profession and also retraced all the steps himself. He then explained the whole procedure in an article and agreed to put it on the webside.

The design had to be enlarged 6 times by an optical enlarger. It was first made on transparent paper and after that it had to be copied on cardboard for the handling on the embroidery machine.
A so called pantograph then transmitted the design to the textile, diminishing at the same time the design 6 times.

I do not know, whether the englisch expressions of the procedure in the above description are correct. Please inform me if you know better ones.
    Anne Wanner
