  • MU VE Fondazione Musei Civici Venezia: after a radical restoration, renovation, retrofitting and refurbishing the entire building reopens to the public on 25 June 2011.   • Der Ausstellungsverbund Raubritter & schöne Madonnen:
    Vor 600 Jahren, im Jahre 1411, wurde der Nürnberger Burggraf Friedrich VI. von Hohenzollern von König Sigismund zum Landeshauptmann der Mark Brandenburg ernannt. Damit begann die Herrschaft der Hohenzollern in Brandenburg, die bis 1918 dauerte.
    Es begann aber auch eine Epoche der kulturellen Blüte des Landes am Vorabend der Reformation.
    Aus Anlass des Jubiläums haben sich das Haus der Brandenburgisch-Preußischen Geschichte in Potsdam, das Museum Bischofsresidenz Burg Ziesar und die Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin - Märkisches Museum erstmals zu einem regionalen Ausstellungsverbund zusammengeschlossen und präsentieren aufeinander bezogene, aber thematisch jeweils eigenständige Ausstellungen.
    Begleitend zum Ausstellungsverbund erscheint ein gemeinsam mit der Universität Potsdam konzipierter     Begleitband zur Geschichte und Kunstgeschichte der Mark Brandenburg im Spätmittelalter.

  • Gundula Wolter reports about the "Offenes Forum" Köln 2011:
    Die Idee stieß auf sehr großes Interesse. Fünfzehn Netzwerkerinnen signalisierten, dass sie sich gerne präsentieren würden. Man einigte sich einvernehmlich auf eine Auswahl.
    - Dr. Annette Paetz gen. Schieck erläuterte das von ihr koordinierte Forschungsprojekt "DressID. Clothing and Identities - New Perspectives on Textiles in the Roman Empire", ein von der EU-Kommission gefördertes internationales und interdisziplinäres Projekt zur Erforschung von Kleidung als Identitätsträger im Römischen Reich.
    - Dr. Hiltrud Bontrup aus Hamburg, Redakteurin bei Gruner+ Jahr und Autorin der „Zeit?, gewährte interessante Einblicke in ihre journalistische Tätigkeit zu Themen der Mode und berichtete über ihre Interviewerfahrungen mit Modeschaffenden.
    - Ophelia S. Beckmann, Expertin für die Berliner Modeszene, schloss thematisch daran an und stellte die von ihr mit großem Engagement betriebenen Internetseite     http://www.modesearch.de - sowie ihrer Arbeit als freie Modejournalistin vor .
    - Stefanie Bieker, Hamburg, selbständige Kostümgestalterin, demonstrierte mit einer Filmeinspielung ihre Tätigkeit am Beispiel der von ihr verantworteten Kostümausstattung des prämierten Films "Der Architekt" (Ina Weisse, 2009).
    - Andrea Joosten, Bibliothekarin (Hamburger Kunsthalle), stellte in Wort und Bild ihr langjährige, bereits sehr ausgereifte und von Insidern gerne genutzte Datenbank zur Literatur von Mode und Kleidung von 1900-1945 vor , was alle sehr beeindruckte.
    - Angelika Riley, stellte die von ihr betreute Abteilung Mode und Textil im Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg engagiert vor.

    Exhibition     12 to 14 August, Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sunday, August 14th from 10am to 5pm: 50 or so examples of needlework in the collection of the Newport Historical Society from the 18th and 19th centuries will be on display at the 2011 Newport Antiques Show. The event is to benefit the Newport Historical Society and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County.   • May 27, 2011 - THE TEXTILE SOCIETY OF AMERICA ANNOUNCES the resignation of President Ruth Scheuing.  Ruth, served as Vice President (2008-2010) and as President since October, 2010.  TSA would like to thank Ruth for her years of service and invaluable leadership to the organization. - The current Vice President, Elena Phipps, takes office as President as of May 15, 2011, and will serve her term through Fall 2014.  TSA Board member Matilda McQuaid has been appointed as interim Vice President (2011-2012).
    Elena Phipps has her PhD in Art History and Archaeology from Columbia University (1989) and was senior museum conservator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for thirty-four years. She was the co-curator of the 2004 exhibition The Colonial Andes: Tapestries and Silverwork 1630-1830, and co-author of the exhibition catalogue that was awarded both the Alfred Barr Jr. Award from College Art Association, and The Mitchell Prize, in 2005.  Her forthcoming publication, Looking at Textiles: a guide to technical terms will be published by the Getty Publications this Fall.  She has been on the Board of the Textile Society of America as Director-at-Large (2008-2010) and was elected Vice President in 2010.
    Matilda McQuaid is Deputy Curatorial Director and head of the textiles department at the Smithsonian Institution’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum.  Her most recent shows include Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay and  Why Design Now? National Design Triennial.  Formerly at The Museum of Modern Art, New York for fifteen years, she curated numerous exhibitions relating to modern and contemporary architecture and design,  most notably Structure and Surface: Contemporary Japanese Textiles (with Cara McCarty).  Matilda has served on the TSA Board as a Director-at-Large since 2006. - (press release)    .   • THE TEXTILE SOCIETY OF AMERICA ANNOUNCES: Traditional and Contemporary Textiles in South Korea
    A STUDY TOUR,     SEPTEMBER 15-26, 2011 - Registration deadline June 1, 2011
    The Textile Society of America Inc. offers study tours and professional development opportunities focused on textiles. This year's Study Tour to South Korea offers a rich mix of traditional textiles and contemporary textile art, along with a unique cultural experience. The tour, led by Karen Searle, will highlight the contrast between ancient and contemporary that can be seen throughout the country, as well as the ways in which Korean artists look to tradition for their contemporary inspiration. The tour will be based in Seoul with visits to the cities of Cheongju, Seochon, and Damyang.
    The centerpiece of the tour will be attending the opening of the Cheongju International Craft Biennale exhibition and its symposium.     About Us: Textile Support is a project initiated by Angharad Rixon, technical textile historian, who after years of teaching in the field of fashion and design chose to respond to the growing need for technical  and practical information in the textile sector, particularly complex and unusual techniques.
    Objectives: To maintain a high level of technical competence among young designers and makers· 
    Be a technical and cultural resource for designers, artists and architects·   
    Safeguard textile traditions via philological studies and reconstructions·   
    Provide accurate and detailed information about traditional and new materials·   
    Encourage dialogue between scholars, technicians, artists and designers.
